Parts Packaging Improvements One of our automotive customers had a weighty problem. An aftermarket manufacturer had specified a heavyweight .004 polyethylene film as a wrapping for the small parts packs sold with their shocks and struts. The heavyweight film was chosen for it's puncture resistance. Problem was, the weight of the film slowed the packaging equipment to a crawl. A call to us got them back up to speed. We suggested a thinner film, to run faster and seal better. Into this film We added a layer of high-density polyethylene into this film to improve puncture resistance. We also included another polymer to increase seal strength and reduce (seal) dwell time. Although the new film cost more, the company actually saved 25% because it was substantially thinner and the yield per pound was increased. Also, the machine could run at a faster speed, and the improved puncture resistance meant a lower rework rate. Want help packaging your product most efficiently? Give us the opportunity to strut our stuff! |
